Banana, Chocolate and Date Bread

    This moist banana bread has the addition of dark chocolate and dates to make it decadent and moreish. Delicious served cold or toasted with butter and a drizzle of golden syrup.

    Serves: 12 

    • 2 large bananas, mashed
    • 3/4 cup soft brown sugar
    • 100g butter, melted
    • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
    • 100g dark chocolate chips
    • 8 fresh dates, pitted, finely diced

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a 21cm x 14cm loaf tin. Line base and two long sides with baking paper, extending paper 5 cm over the edge.
    2. In a large bowl, combine the banana and sugar. Add the butter, eggs and milk; mix well. Add the flour, chocolate chips and dates; mix until combined. Spread evenly into the prepared tin.
    3. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre of the bread comes out clean. Cool bread in tin for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool.


    Store banana bread in an airtight container for up to 4 days or wrapped in individual slices in the freezer for up to 2 months.
