Barramundi fish or Bhetki fish cutlet

    Bhetki fish, in English Barramundi fish is a very popular and tasty fish mostly available in South Asian countries, where people are generally fond of fish. The Bay of Bengal and other connecting seas are the main sources of Bhetki fish, although this fish migrates to connecting rivers and other water areas. As such, various sizes of Barramundi fish are available in these countries allowing people to make different recipes of Barramundi fish. Among various recipes, fish cutlets is a very tasty snack item. Not all fish is suitable for cutlet, while Bhetki fish is the perfect choice as its fillets are easily separable from the central vertebral bone. It is not only the boneless fillets also the different flavor and taste of the fish make it more suitable for fish cutlet.

    • 250 gm fish fillet
    • 200 gm potato, boiled
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup bread crumb
    • 1 tsp garlic slices
    • 1/2 cup onion, slices
    • 1 tbsp corn flour
    • 1 tbsp green chili
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 cup vegetable oil


    1. Apply salt and lemon juice over the fish fillet
    2. Boil water in a pan and add fish fillets when the water is fully boiled.
    3. Fry onion and garlic slices and keep aside when the color is brown.
    4. Remove skin of boiled potatoes and mash it finely.
    5. When the fish is tendered take out of the boiled water and put aside for cooling down.
    6. Mash the fish and mix with mashed potato using cleaned hand palm.
    7. Add corn flour, fried onion and garlic, green chili, and coriander powder.
    8. Mix well and make leaf shaped cutlets.
    9. Apply egg and cover with bread crumb on outer surface of cutlets.
    10. Heat oil in a pan with medium heat.
    11. Fry cutlets until the color is turned to brown.


    Serve with tomato sauce or salads during afternoon snack time.
