Chocolate and Strawberry Wontons

    Crispy golden fried wonton triangles contain a sweet and molten heart of milk chocolate and strawberries. Perfect for a special dessert served warm, dusted with a little icing sugar.

    Serves: 40 

    • 335g wonton wrappers
    • 170g milk chocolate chips
    • 10 strawberries, quartered
    • 700ml vegetable oil for frying
    • 2 tablespoons icing sugar for dusting, or as needed

    1. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean board or work surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of chocolate chips into the centre of the wrapper. Top with a piece of strawberry. Dip your finger in water, and moisten 2 adjacent inside edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper into a triangle; squeeze out as much air as possible from the contents and make sure the wrapper is very well sealed by pressing the edges with your fingers. Set the filled wrappers on a parchment-lined baking tray.
    2. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 175 degrees C.
    3. Fry the wonton triangles, a few at a time, until golden brown, about 45 seconds on the first side. Flip them in the oil, and fry an additional 30 seconds on the second side. Drain the fried wontons on kitchen roll. Dust with icing sugar. Serve warm.

    I made these with semi-sweet chocolate chips and strawberries. I fried half and baked half. My son thought the baked were better than fried. Before I baked them I sprayed both sides with cooking spray. I put them under the broiler for about a minute on each side.
