    1. Preheat oven to 175 deg C.
    2. Place butternut pumpkin, cut sides down, in a baking dish. Pour water into dish around pumpkin halves, about 1cm up the sides.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven until tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 1 1/2 hours. Carefully remove the skin with a fork; it should be very easy to remove. Top pumpkin halves with butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Cook's Note:

To cook a large butternut pumpkin takes 90 minutes. If you have a smaller pumpkin, adjust the baking time.

Ridiculously easy and delicious. Great on its own, but also perfect to customize flavors, based on other dishes or personal taste. To each his own.  -  22 Feb 2019  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

So easy, nothing needed except the flavor from the squash itself. When my kids see me come home from the grocery store with a butternut squash the immediately ask if I can cook it tonight. Definitely a wonderful side, or if you so choose and you're on your own get a small one and cook it up and eat it all to yourself :-) it's incredibly nutritious  -  18 Jan 2019  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
