    1. Preheat oven to 175 deg C.
    2. Place butternut pumpkin, cut sides down, in a baking dish. Pour water into dish around pumpkin halves, about 1cm up the sides.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven until tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 1 1/2 hours. Carefully remove the skin with a fork; it should be very easy to remove. Top pumpkin halves with butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Cook's Note:

To cook a large butternut pumpkin takes 90 minutes. If you have a smaller pumpkin, adjust the baking time.

I make this at Christmas with an orange cranberry sauce in the depression and dusted with nutmeg. Makes for a pretty presentation and I think it's yummy.  -  04 Feb 2018  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Made no changes other than Margarine instead of Butter. First time cooking that type of Squash. Turned out amazing.  -  20 Dec 2017  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

My husband and I hated it. No flavor orange mush. However, my dog loved it, thought it was the best thing ever.  -  05 Nov 2017  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
