Quality Caramel Slice

    Want a delicious treat to have with your coffee or show off your cooking skills! This is the slice that will keep up appearances! This recipe has been in my family for four generations now and we hope it becomes a tradition in yours.

    Makes: 1 20X20cm slice

    • 3/4 cup brown sugar
    • 3/4 cup rolled oats
    • 3/4 cup desicated coconut
    • 1 1/2 cups of self raising flour
    • 220g butter
    • 300ml condensed sweetened milk
    • 30g butter
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 200g dark chocolate

    1. Preheat oven 180 deg C. Line 20x20cm slice tin with baking paper.
    2. Combine flour, oats, coconut and sugar in a large bowl Add 220g melted butter mix well.
    3. Press mix into slice tray and put in the oven to bake for 14 minutes.
    4. Meanwhile, make caramel. Combine 30g butter, condensed sweeten milk and golden syrup in sauce pan and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring continually.
    5. Pour hot caramel over hot slice mix and return to oven for anther 10 minutes.
    6. Once slice is completely cool add melted dark chocolate and set.


    I seed my dark chocolate for a tempered shine and snap. Also I score the chocolate before it fully sets so the chocolate doesn't crack and split when cut into pieces.
