Queen Size Lasagne

The Quaintrelles queen size, family friendly lasagne even has hidden green vegies! It makes two, 2.6-litre lasagnes or one giant queen size lasagne. We think this is great for meal planning, serving up one for dinner and freezing the other. Or if you're having a large dinner party this is a great one you can prepare in advance! It's full of flavour, creamy and we promise I'll be a hit with the whole family.

    1 person made this

    • 2 brown onions diced
    • 3 garlic cloves crushed
    • 3 tbsp olive oil
    • 1kg minced beef
    • 2 tsp dried basil
    • 2 tsp dried Oregano
    • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
    • 2x 400g tins diced tomatoes
    • 200g tomato paste
    • 2 grated zucchini
    • 120g butter
    • 8 tbsp plain flour
    • 5 cups of milk (1.25lts)
    • Lasagne Sheets
    • 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese for top

    1. Heat oil in large pot; cook onion and garlic, stirring until onion is soft. Add beef, cook, stirring until brown. Add basil, oregano and thyme (add additional spice or salt to taste). Add tinned tomatoes and tomato paste, bring to boil. Grate zucchini into pot and let simmer approx. 30 minutes.
    2. Meanwhile make white sauce. Melt butter in saucepan, add flour, cook constantly stirring for 2 minutes. Gradually add milk stirring until mixture boils and thickens.
    3. Preheat oven 180*c
    4. Get out ovenproof dish or dishes, line the bottom with lasagne sheets, add half the beef mixture on top, then half the white sauce, then another layer of lasagne sheets, then the remainder of the beef mixture, then the remainder of the white sause. Top with saved parmesan
    5. At this point you can freeze your lasagne for a rainy day! Cook lasagne fresh or completely defrosted for approximately 1hr

Don't leave white sauce too long before constructing the lasagne as it's easier to spread the white sauce hot!
