Quentão is a Brazilian version of a mulled wine or a spiced rum, made with cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane rum), ginger, sugar and citrus fruits.


Serves: 6 

  • 300g caster sugar
  • 375ml water
  • 4 tablespoons slivered root ginger
  • 2 limes, sliced
  • 1 orange slice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1L good quality cachaça

  1. Heat sugar and water in a large saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the ginger, limes, oranges, cinnamon and cloves then simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, allowing flavours to infuse.
  3. Remove from heat and add the cachaça then return to heat. Bring to the boil and let boil for a few seconds, then remove from heat. Serve warm.
