These adorable snowman cupcakes are the perfect decoration for your Christmas table or to give away to friends at Christmas time.

Makes: 12 snowmen
24 vanilla cupcakes
450g buttercream icing, or as needed
red and black liquorice laces
a small piece orange fondant
coloured chocolate sweets

If using freshly baked cupcakes, ensure that they are completely cooled before decorating. Cut away the crusts from 12 of the cupcakes and crumble the soft cake interiors into a bowl. Add 150g of the buttercream icing and mix well. Add more buttercream only if needed to bring the mixture together into a ball so that it can be easily shaped (just like when making cake pops). Cover and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Take small pieces of the cake and buttercream mixture and roll into two different sized balls for the snowman's torso and head using wet hands. Spread a thin layer of icing onto each cupcake then place the smaller ball on top of the larger ball and place onto cupcake.
Cut black liquorice laces into small squares for the eyes and mouth. Attach them with the tip of a knife.
Make little carrot noses out of the orange fondant and press into the face.
With a little buttercream attach dark chocolate sweets as buttons onto the torso and cupcake.
Attach two chocolate sweets on each side of his head and connect them with a piece of black liquorice for the earmuffs.
Cut a 7cm piece of the red liquorice and wrap around the snowman's neck as a scarf.
