Need a festive cupcake in a hurry? Decorate your favourite cupcakes with green buttercream for the Christmas tree and an array of sweets and sprinkles for Christmas ornaments. Quick and easy, not to mention a great project to do with the kids.

600g buttercream icing, or as needed
green food colouring
sweets, sprinkles, etc. for decoration

Bake your cupcakes using your favourite recipe and allow to cool completely, or use shop-bought cupcakes or muffins.
Take approximately 500g of the buttercream and add a drop or two of green food colouring. Stir and add more colouring, a drop at a time, until your desired hue is reached. Fill a piping bag with the green buttercream and set aside.
Spread a thin layer of the remaining plain buttercream onto the top of each cupcake.
Working perpendicular to a cupcake, start piping the green buttercream around the edge, working inwards in a circular motion to create a tree shape. Repeat with remaining cupcakes.
Use a variety of your favourite decorations to add 'ornaments' to the Christmas trees. You can use silver dragees, coloured sugar or sprinkles, red jelly beans, etc. Have fun!
