Flake Cupcakes

    Chocolate cupcakes decorated with chocolate buttercream and Flake bars. These are my 10 year-old son's favourite thing to eat in the world. I make these for the school and church fairs and they always go down a treat! Easy to make and lovely to eat!

    Makes: 24 cupcakes

    • Cupcakes
    • 225g margarine
    • 225g golden caster sugar
    • 225g self raising flour
    • 4 eggs
    • 85g cocoa powder
    • 1 splash vanilla extract or essence
    • 1 splash milk
    • Buttercream
    • 175g margarine
    • 280g icing sugar
    • 100g melted chocolate
    • 85g cocoa powder
    • To Decorate
    • Flake chocolate bars

    Preparation:30min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Cupcakes: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease or line a cupcake tin.
    2. Mix the margarine and golden caster sugar together, then gradually add the flour and eggs. Mix well, then add the cocoa powder, vanilla and milk.
    3. Fill the muffin cases half way up, there should be enough mixture to make 24 cupcakes, depends on the size of your cases.
    4. Bake for 25 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Leave to cool.
    5. Buttercream: Combine all buttercream ingredients and beat well until smooth.
    6. To Decorate: Pipe or spoon the buttercream onto each cooled cupcake.
    7. Cut each full sized Flake in to 3 pieces and lay a piece on top of the buttercream.


    If piping the buttercream on use a piping bag with a huge rose nozzle on. Start piping around the sides and end up in the middle so it's a nice mountain of buttercream. Practice makes perfect, if you go wrong just scrape it off and start again.
