    Every little girl's dream, the perfect fairy cake. This is a basic and easy to follow recipe for small fairy cakes, perfect for making with the children. Add flavouring or food colouring of your choice and decorate with chocolate, lemon or vanilla icing.

    Makes: 24 fairy cakes

    • 225g butter
    • 225g sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 225g self raising flour

    1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees C. Grease two 12-hole fairy cake tins or line with paper cases.
    2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the flour.
    3. Spoon the cake mixture into the prepared tins or cases.
    4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until risen and golden and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
    5. Place on a cooling rack and allow to cool completely before decorating.
