Arjoli (Maltese Tuna Spread)

This is an easy yet tasty Maltese recipe, it's a delicious paste that you can eat with crackers or bread.


Serves: 12 

  • 5 cloves garlic, finely diced
  • 1 (800g) tin tuna
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1 small tin anchovies
  • green olives, finely diced
  • Tabasco chilli sauce, to taste
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 mint leaves
  • 5 basil leaves
  • vinegar, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon capers
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon tomato puree, or as required

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and pulse to combine and blend. If it is a pale white colour add more tomato puree to adjust the colour. If it is runny you can add some soft bread that will absorb the moisture and can be combine in.
