This lemonade will take you right back to those hot childhood summer days. My Mam would make this for me when I was a child and it always hit the spot. It is a refreshing tasty drink that is so simple to make, also children will love getting involved too.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4

    • 3 large lemons
    • 1.8L water
    • 100g caster sugar (or to taste)

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Extra time:1hour marinating  ›  Ready in:1hour30min

    1. Peel the lemons, removing white pith. Cut peel into strips and juice the lemons. Add the juice and peels to a saucepan of cold water, about 3 pints.
    2. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Add sugar to taste, and stir until dissolved.
    3. Strain through a sieve to remove peels. Let cool and then chill in fridge. Serve with ice cubes and thinly sliced lemons.

    Other ideas

For pink lemonade, just add a splash of cranberry juice.

I just made this for the first time today because it's been so hot and I must say it's the BEST lemonade I've ever had! I had 4 medium sized lemons that needed using up so I threw them into the 3 pints of water and added about 200g of sugar at the end. The result was very strong but after adding a little bit of water and some ice, this lemonade is perfect! It's much better to cook the lemons than just mixing everything with cold water. The result is a lot smoother, and refreshing taste.  -  01 Jul 2015  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

I've just made this. Couldn't be easier. I used already boiling water and put it into a large pan with the lemon juice and sugar (not peel as they were waxed lemons). I only let it boil for 5 minutes and the whole house smelled so yummy I couldn't wait to try it. We didn't even let it cool. It was so yummy and warming after being outside in the cold. I'm making this again for sure.  -  10 Jan 2014  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
