A big pot of soup for when you have to feed an army with minimum trouble. Instead of ham you could substitute sliced smoked sausage if you prefer.


Serves: 10 

  • 2 litres water
  • 300g ham, diced
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 1 tin cannellini beans
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves garlic

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:1hour  ›  Ready in:1hour20min 

  1. Boil the water in a saucepan and add the ham and potatoes.
  2. Heat oil in a frypan and fry the onion and carrot until tender, then add to the soup.
  3. Add beans, salt, pepper, bay leaf and whole garlic cloves. Simmer until potatoes are tender.
