A very thick pea soup recipe from Sweden, perfect for a cold night! You will need to soak the split peas overnight.


Serves: 10 

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g yellow split peas, soaked
  • 3 litres water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 3 potatoes, diced
  • fresh parsley, chopped
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:1hour30min  ›  Ready in:1hour40min 

  1. Heat the oil and fry the onion in a saucepan until transparent. Add the garlic and cook 1 more minute. Add the peas, water, salt and bay leave. Simmer, covered, about 1 hour.
  2. Add the carrots, potatoes, parsley, salt and pepper. Simmer another 30 minutes and serve.
