    Perfect for a chocolate-lover's Valentine's day, these hearts have a swirl pattern which is very pretty on its own, or you can decorate further with icing.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 3 1/2 cups flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    • 3 tablespoon cocoa
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 3 eggs
    • 200ml vegetable oil
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 6 tablespoons milk
    • 1 tablespoon red food colouring
    • Cream filling
    • 400g cream cheese
    • 2 eggs
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C and grease baking trays.
    2. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, cocoa and baking powder.
    3. In a separate bowl, lightly beat eggs, add vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons milk, food colouring and vanilla. Mix in the dry ingredients. The dough should be thick.
    4. Remove about 200g of the dough to another bowl, add remaining 4 tablespoons milk and beat until creamy.
    5. Prepare the filling: beat the cream cheese with eggs, sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
    6. On one or more greased baking trays, lay out the dough. Spread evenly until thin. Top with a layer of filling, again spread evenly.
    7. Place dollops of the thin batter on top of the cream filling, and use a table knife to make swirling patterns.
    8. Bake 25-30 minutes. When cool, cut out heart shapes with biscuit cutters. If you like, decorate with icing.
