Chocolate Cake with Pears

    A chocolate and pear upside down cake with a heavenly aroma. It's perfect for an autumn evening with some ice cream.

    Makes: 1 cake

    • 300g butter, softened
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 3 tablespoons honey
    • 1 1/2 cups flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 100g chocolate, grated
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
    • 3 pears
    • 2 tablespoons butter, extra
    • 2 tablespoons sugar, extra

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C and grease a round cake tin.
    2. Beat butter and sugar together then beat in eggs one at a time. Mix in the honey.
    3. Sift the flour together with the baking powder. To the eggs add grated chocolate, cocoa, walnuts and mix. Gradually mix in flour.
    4. Thinly slice the pears. In a frypan melt extra 2 tablespoons butter and saute the pears for a few minutes. Sprinkle with sugar.
    5. Arrange the pears in the cake tin and pour the batter on top. Bake 50 minutes. Let cool and invert on a plate.
