My mother used to make a lamb cake every year and the tradition continues! You will need a lamb shaped cake mold.


Makes: 1 cake

  • 75g butter
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon rum
  • 140g flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • icing sugar, for dusting
  • desiccated coconut (optional)

  1. Mix the flour with the baking powder. Cream the butter until light and fluffy then gradually stir in sugar, vanilla sugar and eggs. And rum and mix in flour.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C and grease a lamb cake mold well. Pour in batter and bake 35-45 minutes, or until it tests done.
  3. Let the lamb cool in the mold then remove. Dust with icing sugar, or, if you prefer, ice it and sprinkle with desiccated coconut.
