Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C. Prepare a baking tray by dusting with flour.
Cream the sugar and margarine. Add the mashed pumpkin (I like to mash mine with a fork so it is still a little chunky rather than turning into a puree). After stirring in the pumpkin add the egg and milk. Combine well.
Sift the flour, baking powder and bicarb slowly into the the pumpkin mixture, while mixing into a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface then roll out to about 2cm thick. Cut out round scones using a biscuit cutter or floured glass.
Place the scones on a tray and brush with additional milk. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
