This is a bit like chilli con carne but served as a soup. It's a great party recipe because it's very quick to cook.


Serves: 6 

  • 150g bacon, diced
  • 600g beef mince
  • 3 large onions, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, diced
  • 3 red capsicums, cut into thin strips
  • 3 green capsicums, cut into thin strips
  • 4 cups (1 litre) beef stock
  • 500g tinned diced tomatoes
  • 250g tinned red kidney beans
  • 1 fresh chilli, or more to taste
  • chilli pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • oregano, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 shot Madeira, optional

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

  1. In a saucepan, fry the bacon until it renders its fat. Add the beef mince and fry until browned.
  2. Add the onions, garlic and capsicums to the saucepan and fry until onions are softening.
  3. Add the stock and bring to a boil Add tomatoes and beans and heat through. Season to taste with fresh chilli, chilli pepper, paprika, oregano, salt and optional Madeira. Simmer 10 minutes and serve!
