I prefer to make mulled wine with white wine because I think it gives a smoother flavour. This recipe has a little rum added at the end for a fragrant kick!


Serves: 6 

  • 4 cups (1 litre) white wine
  • 2 cups (550ml) apple juice
  • peel of 1 lemon, cut in a spiral
  • 3cm fresh ginger, sliced
  • 50g white sugar, or more to taste
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 shot rum or orange liqueur

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:1hour  ›  Ready in:1hour5min 

  1. Combine white wine, apple juice, lemon peel, ginger, sugar and cinnamon stick in a saucepan and heat slowly, but do not boil. Leave for 1 hour on low heat so it can infuse.
  2. Strain through a sieve into cups and add a little rum or liqueur to each. Serve hot.
