Panettone Essence

    If you bake your own panettone at Christmas you have to try using the essence instead of plain vanilla. Also great in fruitcake.

    Makes: 4 tablespoons

    • 6 tablespoons water
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • pinch grated nutmeg
    • 2 cinnamon sticks
    • 1 teaspoon orange liqueur (or orange juice)
    • 1 thin slice lemon peel
    • 8 cloves

    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min 

    1. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over low heat and mix well. After it comes to a simmer, reduce to about 4 tablespoons worth.
    2. Remove from heat and strain. Now you can use the essence making your own panettone.
