Potato and Sweet Potato Gratin

Nothing like a big dish of potato gratin for a feast or Christmas table! This recipe has both normal and sweet potatoes for a touch of difference.


Serves: 8 

  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 750g sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 170g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 300ml light thickened cream
  • salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a rectangular baking dish. In a bowl, toss together the potatoes and sweet potatoes.
  2. In the baking dish, place half the potatoes, then half the Parmesan, then remaining mixed potatoes.
  3. Melt the butter in a small frypan and saute the garlic until golden. Sprinkle over the potatoes.
  4. Season the cream with salt and pepper to taste, pour over the potatoes, then top with remaining cheese. Bake 45 minutes and serve!
