This ham when steamed takes on the flavour of the onions and apple. It is so tender the meat falls off the bone.


Serves: 8 

  • 1 bone-in ham leg
  • 1 large yellow onion, quartered
  • 1-2 red apples, roughly diced
  • 15-20 black peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2-3 bay leaves
  • 1 cup water

  1. In a large heavy baking tin, place the onion, apples, peppercorns, nutmeg and bay leaves.
  2. Add 1 cup water, and nestle the ham in among the vegetables. Cover and bake at 150 degrees C for 3 hours.
