Hot Orange Cake with Chocolate Sauce

Orange and chocolate. Comfort food. Nice and easy to make.

Makes: 1 cake

  • 1 1/2 cups self raising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 2 eggs
  • finely grated rind of 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups thickened cream
  • 395g dark cooking chocolate
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:1hour 

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease and line bottom of a 20cm round cake tin.
  2. Place flour, sugar, oil, egg, rind, juice and milk into a bowl and with an electric mixer beat until well combined. Pour into tin.
  3. Cook for approximately 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
  4. When cake has about 10 minutes left to cook, prepare sauce: place all sauce ingredients into a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water. Stir until melted and smooth. Transfer sauce to a pouring jug.
  5. Place cooked hot cake onto a serving dish. Tip some of the sauce over the cake. Serve with cream and remaining sauce.
