This apple sauce is great to eat alone or to make a lazy mans pie, strudel or tart; I have even used it in some cake recipes that all for apple sauce. My secret ingredient - mixed spice.

Makes: 1 batch apple sauce

  • 8 tablespoons water
  • 12 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 6 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spice

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

  1. Place a saucepan on a medium heat then add the water. When the water is boiling add all the apples, lower the heat and put on the lid.
  2. When the apples are starting to soften add the sugar and mixed spice.
  3. Cook the apples until the desired texture, firm for use in pies and similar or soft and mushy if you plan to puree and use as a sauce or in a cake.
