This apple sauce is great to eat alone or to make a lazy mans pie, strudel or tart; I have even used it in some cake recipes that all for apple sauce. My secret ingredient - mixed spice.
Makes: 1 batch apple sauce
8 tablespoons water
12 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
6 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
2 teaspoons mixed spice
- Place a saucepan on a medium heat then add the water. When the water is boiling add all the apples, lower the heat and put on the lid.
- When the apples are starting to soften add the sugar and mixed spice.
- Cook the apples until the desired texture, firm for use in pies and similar or soft and mushy if you plan to puree and use as a sauce or in a cake.
