This pudding evokes childhood memories when food was a most important aspect of my family life. Perfect for chilly nights - a spongy pudding with a thick syrupy chocolate sauce.
Pudding: Cream together butter and sugar in a bowl with an electric beater or a wooden spoon. Add the egg to the creamed mixture then beat together well.
Sift together flour and cocoa powder. Add to creamed mixture together with milk. Pour into greased 2 litre baking dish.
Sauce: Dissolve the brown sugar and cocoa in boiling water. Pour the sauce over the back of a metal spoon onto the pudding. Bake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees C.
Remove from oven and serve hot (or cold) with your choice of custard or ice cream.
