Chocolate Buttercream Icing

I have always been an icing type of person but recently started making buttercream as an alternative, this easy chocolate version is one of my favourites. It can be used on cupcakes or large cakes.

Makes: 1 large cake's worth

  • 150g butter
  • 90g cocoa
  • 160ml milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 900g icing sugar

Preparation:15min  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. Using a mixer, beat the butter and half the cocoa powder together on low until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the milk, remaining cocoa and the vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  3. Add the icing sugar, about 2 tablespoons at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
