This is a very popular snack in the Balkans and quite pretty when it is baked. You'll need a bit of space to roll out the dough.

Ingredients
Serves: 4 

  • Dough
  • 25g butter
  • 4 cups (500g) plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • warm water
  • Filling
  • 25g butter
  • 500g veal mince
  • 250g beef mince
  • 4 onions, diced
  • 2 egg yolks
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. Dough: Melt the butter and mix it into the flour, salt and warm water to create a ball of dough. Cut it into 4 parts.
  3. Filling: Warm the butter and mix it with the meat, the onions, the yolks and salt and pepper. Set aside.
  4. Thinly roll out one of the balls of dough and leave it to dry for a few minutes.
  5. Brush the pastry with oil or melted butter, put one quarter of the filling on one side of the sheet and roll it until you get a long thin roll.
  6. Starting in the middle of a baking dish make a spiral out of the roll. Bake for about 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Repeat for the other three.
