This is the style of pancakes I used to eat as a child, it is based more on a batter (no rising agent) than the new style thick fluffy American ones.

Serves: 6 

  • 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • 2 tablespoons (50ml) water

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:20min 

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl then make a well in the middle.
  2. Combine the milk and water.
  3. Break the egg into the flour, add half the milk then mix until well combined. Slowly add the remaining milk until the desired thickness is reached.
  4. Heat a frypan to a medium heat, melt some butter, then cook the pancakes until brown on both sides.
