Chocolate and Strawberry Cake

    A yummy chocolate cake with strawberries, Nutella(TM) and cream filling that will appeal to adults and kids alike.

    Makes: 1 cake

    • 50g cocoa powder
    • 6 tablespoons boiling water
    • 150ml sunflower oil
    • 3 eggs
    • 175g sugar
    • 175g self raising flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/4 cup Nutella (TM)
    • 600ml cream, whipped
    • 1 punnet of strawberries, washed and halved

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C and grease a 20cm cake tin.
    2. Put cocoa into a small bowl, gradually add the boiling water and mix to a smooth paste. Set aside to cool.
    3. Put the oil, eggs and sugar into a large mixing bowl and whisk together. Add the cocoa paste, flour and baking powder and whisk again until smooth.
    4. Pour mixture into cake tin and bake for 20-30 minutes until it is well risen and the top springs back when lightly pressed.
    5. Leave the cake to cool in the cake tin for 10 minutes, then loosen the sides with a knife and transfer to a wire rack. Leave to cool completely.
    6. Once completely cooled, cut cake in half horizontally. Spread the bottom layer of the cake with the Nutella, half the whipped cream and half the strawberries.
    7. Place the top half of the cake back on and top with remaining cream and strawberries.
    8. Serve and enjoy the inevitable admiration of all who taste your creation!


    Please note that you can use more or less Nutella, just work to your own tastes. I, personally, have a couple of Nutella-crazed friends who I load it on for, but most people enjoy this as it appears.

    This cake looks yummy and I would love to try this recipe but I don't use gs or mls for flour, sugar or cocoa as I prefer cups and spoons. So sad.  -  03 Sep 2014
