Mulled Cinnamon and Allspice Apple Juice

    I am a spice loving person, and the spices mixed in with the apple juice in this recipe make me feel like I am eating a fresh apple pie.

    Serves: 4 

    • 4 cups apple juice
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 2 cinnamon sticks
    • 3 whole allspice berries
    • 1 split seed of nutmeg
    • 4 whole cloves
    • 1 lemon, peeled and cut into strips
    • 1 orange, peeled and cut into strips

    1. Pour the apple juice and golden syrup into a large stainless steel saucepan.
    2. Place the cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, nutmeg, cloves, lemon peel and orange peel in a muslin cloth. Secure with kitchen string then drop the spice bag into the juice mixture.
    3. Place the saucepan over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes or until the mixture is very hot but not boiling.
    4. Remove from the heat and take out the cloth of spices. Ladle the apple juice into mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks if desired.
