    Serves: 4

    • 3 large green apples
    • 1/8 cup caster sugar
    • 100g butter, cut into cubes
    • 1/4 cup plain flour
    • 1/4 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup rolled oats
    • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut

    Preparation:25min  ›  Cook:35min  ›  Ready in:1hour

    1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees C.
    2. Peel and core apples then slice thinly. Place apples in large pan with the caster sugar and cover with water. Simmer, covered with lid on, until apples are tender but not too soft.
    3. Drain apples well and place in an ovenproof dish. Make sure you leave enough room for the crumble to be added.
    4. To make the crumble, add the cubed butter to the plain flour and gently rub butter through flour with fingertips. It should look like breadcrumbs when finished.
    5. Combine the flour mixture, brown sugar, rolled oats and coconut in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
    6. Spread mixture on the top of the cooked apples.
    7. Bake for about 30 minutess or until the crumble topping is slightly browned. Serve with ice cream, cream or custard.

To add variety to this dessert, you can add sultanas or cooked rhubarb to the apple mix. You can also use peaches or apricots instead of apples to create another beautiful dessert.
