In a glass bowl, combine the garlic, turmeric, coriander, cumin, sugar, fish sauce, salt and oil. Mix in the chicken and let marinate at least 1 hour, or refrigerate overnight. Soak about 12 wooden skewers to prevent burning.
Preheat the barbecue. Thread the meat onto skewers. Cook about five minutes a side, or until done. Don't let them burn!
