Basic Cheese Scones

    This is a basic cheese scone recipe that I make that turns plain scones into a savoury cheese scone. Goes great warm with soup.

    Makes: 12 scones

    • 50g butter
    • 2 cups self raising flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 200ml milk
    • 1/2 cup tasty cheese, grated
    • paprika, to taste

    1. Preheat an oven to 230 degrees C.
    2. Rub the butter with your finger tips into the flour and salt to form a breadcrumb type texture.
    3. Add enough milk into the flour to form a light dough then combine in the grated cheese.
    4. Turn the dough out onto a floured board and knead slightly. Cut out round scones. Sprinkle with more grated cheese if desired and paprika.
    5. Place on a floured tray and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
