5 Minute Mug Cake

    A popular 5 minute chocolate mug cake. Prepare and cook within 5 minutes. You're only ever 5 minutes away from chocolate cake.

    Serves: 2 

    • 4 tablespoons self-raising flour
    • 4 tablespoons caster sugar
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1 medium egg
    • 3 tablespoons milk
    • 3 tablespoons canola/light olive oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips (optional)
    • 1 coffee mug

    Preparation:3min  ›  Cook:2min  ›  Ready in:5min 

    1. Add all the dry ingredients to the mug and mix well.
    2. Add the egg and mix well.
    3. Add the milk, oil and vanilla extract and mix well.
    4. (Optional) Add the chocolate chips.
    5. Microwave on high (800 watts) for 2 1/2 minutes. The cake will rise above the top of the mug - don't be alarmed!
    6. Allow to cool a little, tip out onto a plate and serve on its own or with some cream.


    Serves two or a treat for one.

    This one turned up soooo good. Had only vegetable oil in hand and used it instead olive oil. Will try it again for sure.. My toddler is eating the cake right now  -  11 Jan 2016


    This was good , a bit much for one so I halved the recipe, so moist also added leftover coffee from plunger instead of milk made a mocha flavour - yum :-)  -  02 Oct 2015


    This is one of the better cakes in a mug. I must admit I did pour a little choc topping into the mix as well though. Some recipes tend to be a bit dry  -  29 Sep 2014
