Here's a novel way to make ice cream without an ice cream machine or hours of freezing. Great fun with the kids. Watch this recipe being made in the Allrecipes Strawberry Ice Cream Video.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 2

    • 1 cup (250ml) single cream
    • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 4 tablespoons fresh strawberries, diced
    • 4 scoops ice cubes
    • 4 tablespoons coarse salt

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Extra time:10min freezing  ›  Ready in:20min

    1. Combine the cream, sugar, vanilla and strawberries in a litre-size resealable plastic bag. Press as much air as you can out of the bag, seal and shake to combine contents. Place the bag into a larger resealable plastic bag. Add the ice and salt to the larger bag, press the air out and seal.
    2. Wrap bags in a tea towel. Shake continuously until the contents of the small bag thicken into soft ice cream, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from larger bag.
    3. Rinse the smaller bag quickly under cold water to wash off salt. Snip off the corner and squeeze ice cream into a bowl.

Step one should mention that you put the salt in with the ice... it took me a few minutes to figure it out (I'm trying to learn to cook, so not obvious to me) also had to google kosher salt versus iodized... iodized worked just fine. This was super yummy.... my husband thought I was a little goofy when he saw me shaking plastic bags around, but loved it once I was done  -  11 Sep 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
