We usually called them muesli bars in Australia but here's some proper Commonwealth snacking. The secret is to use demerara sugar and not brown sugar. Couldn't be easier!

Makes: 12 bars

  • 115g demerara sugar
  • 170g butter
  • 1 generous dessertspoon golden syrup
  • 230g rolled oats

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:25min 

  1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees C.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, combine sugar, butter and golden syrup. Stir in the oats. Press into a greased 20X30cm slice tin.
  3. Cook 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool and cut into bars.
