Chocolate Orange Mousse

    Orange zest adds a delicious flavour to this classic dark chocolate mousse that's also flavoured with coffee.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 10 small portions

    • 200g plain chocolate, 60% cacao
    • 1 orange
    • 2-3 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
    • 6 room temperature eggs, separated
    • pinch salt

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Extra time:6hours chilling  ›  Ready in:6hours20min 

    1. Zest the orange, then mash the zest in a mortar and pestle.
    2. Combine the chocolate, orange zest and coffee in a double boiler (or in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water). Once chocolate is melted, stir till smooth and remove from heat.
    3. Combine egg whites and salt in a large bowl. Whisk till stiff peaks form. Set aside.
    4. Add egg yolks to the slightly cooled chocolate mixture. Stir well.
    5. Pour the chocolate-yolk mixture over the egg whites. Carefully fold together using a metal fork or spoon till just combined.
    6. Fill 10 small dessert glasses with the chocolate mousse mixture (or place in one large serving dish). Chill in the fridge for at least 6 hours, or overnight.

    I followed the recipe and even watched the video to make sure I did it properly. I only put two tbsp of coffee into my mousse and it was very strong, next time I will only put one. Can't taste the orange but it's properly coz the coffee is so over powering. Will definitely make again.  -  14 Feb 2014  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
