    Sangrita is a Mexican fruit drink served with tequila to cleanse the palate and highlight the tequila's crispness.

    Serves: 20 

    • 1 cup (250ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
    • 1 thin slice of onion
    • 4 cups (1 litre) freshly squeezed orange juice
    • hot sauce (e.g. Tabasco), to taste
    • salt, to taste
    • 60ml pomegranate juice (optional)
    • To Serve
    • tequila shots

    Preparation:15min  ›  Extra time:20min resting  ›  Ready in:35min 

    1. Pour the lime juice into a glass jug then add the slice of onion. Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes to let the flavours mingle.
    2. Remove onion then add the orange juice, hot sauce and salt. Stir well. Stir in the pomegranate juice, if using.
    3. To Serve: In chilled shot glasses serve the Sangrita alongside a shot of tequila. Or enjoy the Sangrita on its own or on the rocks.

    Made this for hubby: He said that he liked it! He also said that the onion flavor wasn't strong, but he could get a hint of it. It went really well with the shot of tequila. I did scale this back quite a bit , just for him to try and drizzled the pomegranate in before serving. He said he would drink this again!
