Porridge with Hazelnuts

    The perfect warming breakfast on cold mornings, this creamy porridge features apple, spices and chopped hazelnuts. You can substitute banana for the apple if you prefer but don't do both.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 1/2 cups oats
    • 1 cup (250ml) water
    • 600ml warm milk
    • 1/3 cup raisins
    • 1 apple, grated
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 2 tablespoons hazelnuts, chopped
    • honey, to serve

    1. Place the oats and water in a saucepan over low heat and stir until the water is absorbed. Add the hot milk gradually and stir until the milk is absorbed.
    2. Add the raisins, apple, salt and nutmeg. Simmer on low for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
    3. Remove from heat and stir in the butter. Serve sprinkled with hazelnuts and honey.
