Delicious Chocolate Cake

    This is the first time i've shared our family recipe, lovely moist chocolate cake that you can't get enough of.

    Makes: 1 cake

    • 4 cups plain flour (sieved)
    • 4 cups sugar
    • 1 cup of cocoa (sieved)
    • 3 teaspoons baking powder (sieved)
    • 2 cups water
    • 250g butter
    • 2 cups of milk
    • 3 teaspoons baking soda
    • 4 eggs
    • 3 tablespoons vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
    • Chocolate icing
    • 100g butter (soft)
    • 250g icing sugar
    • 1/3 cup cocoa
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • milk to mix

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl except the baking soda.
    3. In a separate bowl heat water and butter until the butter is melted in the water.
    4. In another bowl heat the milk then add the baking soda (the baking soda should bubble a little bit).
    5. Also in another bowl mix the vinegar, eggs and vanilla essence.
    6. Make a well in the dry ingredients. Pour all the components into it mixing well. Then line the cake tin or roasting dish with baking paper or grease with butter and pour mixture in.
    7. Bake for 1 hour, or until skewer comes out clean.

    9. Combine all ingredients in a bowl , mix and keep adding milk until you get the consistency you desire.


    The procedure looks very long but it's actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. The cake is also delicious as cupcakes.
