Basic Gingerbread Men
I like to make gingerbread men with the kids from time to time. This recipe is easy and generally I have all the ingredients in the house.
Ingredients
Serves: 8
- 125g butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger

- Cream butter and sugar until well combined then mix in the egg. Sift in flour, bicarb soda and ginger. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface adding more flour if necessary.
- Roll out dough thinly then use a shaped cutter or knife to create your men.
- Preheat an oven to 180 degrees C.
- Place the men on a lightly greased tray and cook for 15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack before decorating.

I didn't really rate these, i'm sorry, as they did NOT TASTE LIKE GINGERBREAD, although i did decorate them and have included some of my pictures of them, VERY DRY INDEED and i even added extra spice but you need golden syrup for real gingerbread but okay i guess for some one who doesn't really like strong gingerbread - 26 Oct 2016 (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
I made this for my children's school party and it was a big hit. Been asked for the recipe twice already by the teachers. I actually prefer it to the traditional one with golden syrup...more crunchy. I didn't have brown sugar so added 1 tablespoon of date syrup to white sugar instead.
