When the bags of apples are on special or I get a bulk value pack at the farmers markets I like to make my own homemade apple pies.

Serves: 8 

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry
  • 1 slice of butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 apples, peeled and sliced

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:1hour  ›  Ready in:1hour20min 

  1. Lay a sheet of puff pastry in a pie dish then lightly rub a coating of butter over it.
  2. Combine the sugar and cinnamon. In the prepared pie dish place a single layer of apple, then sprinkle with sugar mix. Repeat this until all the apple is in the pie.
  3. Lay the second puff pastry sheet on top then seal around the edges. Put two slits in the pastry top to let the steam escape.
  4. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C and cook for 20 minutes, then drop the temperature back to 180 degrees C and cook for an additional 40 minutes.
