Sultana Bread Pudding

    Warm and comforting bread pudding is a favourite especially in the colder months, and it is very simple to make even with stale bread.

    Serves: 9 

    • 500g white loaf, torn into small pieces
    • 4 cups hot skim milk
    • 3 eggs, beaten
    • 440g caster sugar
    • 2 tablespoons vanilla essence
    • 150g sultanas
    • 60g butter

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, pour hot milk over bread. In a separate bowl, blend eggs, sugar and vanilla. Stir egg mixture and sultanas into the bread mixture and mix well.
    3. Melt the butter and pour into a 23x33cm baking dish. Pour bread mixture over butter. Bake for 40 minutes, or until firm and golden brown. Serve warm with custard.

    Used different ingredients. Reduced sugar to 180g, added 2 finely chopped granny smith apples and 2tsp cinnamon  -  12 Jul 2010


    Used different ingredients. i omitted the sultanas and added cocoa to make it a choc pudding. i also sprinkled the top with raw sugar to give it a nice crisp top.  -  12 Jul 2010
