Chocolate Steamed Pudding

    A traditional chocolate steamed pudding that is best served with whipped cream and a drizzle of golden syrup. Makes a great dessert for dinner guests.

    Serves: 6 

    • 190g self raising flour
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa
    • 90g butter
    • 90g sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 100ml milk
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:1hour30min  ›  Ready in:1hour45min 

    1. Sift together flour and cocoa. Cream butter and sugar, then beat in the egg. Stir in the flour mixture and the vanilla essence.
    2. Pour into a greased pudding basin with a greased lid then steam for 1 1/2 hours. Serve with whipped cream and warm golden syrup.

    Cooked this today and it was a real hit with the family. Nice and moist! This was my first ever steamed pudding and I was so happy to see it turn out the way it did (although I was a bit confused as to when to add the milk as it wasn't in the instructions?). I will definitely make again. I made custard to have with it instead of the golden syrup or whipped cream. Thank you for sharing. Delicious!  -  26 Jul 2013
