These are a bit of hassle but I think they are worth the effort if I have the time and want something a little nicer to eat for dinner. You can use a packet of stuffing mix if you are in a rush.

Serves: 4 

  • 4 thin slices of round steak
  • 1 quantity of your favourite stuffing
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Lay the thin slices of meat out and spread with the stuffing mixture. Roll into a sausage and secure with a toothpick or two.
  2. Heat the oil in a frypan and brown the rolled meat then place in a casserole dish. In the same frypan brown the onion, then add the flour and combine well - if too dry add some more oil.
  3. Still on the heat add the stock, salt and pepper, when well combined and boiling add to the casserole.
  4. Place the casserole dish in an oven preheated to 180 degrees C and cook for 90 minutes, stir and check there is enough stock every 20 minutes. Remove skewers to serve.
