Oven Baked Tomato Sauce

    This is a different way to make tomato sauce, baking all the ingredients in the oven. With tomatoes, apples, onion, sugar and apple cider vinegar, this is yummy.

    Makes: 1 kg

    • 1kg tomatoes
    • 2 apples
    • 1 onion
    • 150g sugar
    • 200g apple cider vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 1 pinch cayenne, to taste
    • 1 teaspoon ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

    Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:1hour  ›  Ready in:1hour20min 

    1. Place all ingredients, well chopped, into an oven safe dish and stir well. Bake in oven at 100 degrees C for at least 1 hour then when cooked, remove and puree.

    Little sweet and very runny (hoping it will thicken in the jar?). Not sure how big 'well chopped' pieces are meant to be but I cut to approx 1cm cubes, baked uncovered for an hour. Very easy but next time I think a little less sugar, maybe add some cloves and garlic and blend with cornflour at the end.  -  31 Jan 2015
