This wholemeal bread uses compressed yeast instead of dry yeast, because it is far superior in quality. With 5 ingredients, this recipe really keeps it simple.
Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a hole in the centre then set in the oven (on low) to warm. In another bowl beat together compressed yeast and sugar then add 1 cup of water. Pour this into the whole in the flour then place in a warm place until well covered with bubbles, about 30-60 minutes. Add the rest of the water then kneed well.
Place into greased loaf tins, each half full. Sit to rise until doubled in size.
Bake at 180 degrees C until cooked through, about 60 minutes.
